THE NEW WORLD ESTATES

a wild land

Simonsberg Mountain in South Africa, Vista Flores, south of Mendoza, in Argentina, Rioja Alta in Spain and Marlborough Valley in New Zealand. This is the New World, with its wealth of spices, with its unique character and its nature – still wild and indomitable. Somewhere different offering up its most delicious treasures...
Especially encounters, galvanising the Rothschild family’s characteristic boldness. Together, they have had the confidence to tame wild nature to create outstanding wine estates.

Chardonnay or Sauvignon?

While both white grape varieties are from Burgundy, the golden Chardonnay grapes have a citrusy flavour whereas the Sauvignon have more mineral notes and are sought after for their freshness... What do they have in common? They thrive in France, but also in the heart of the New World, in the Rothschild vineyards.

THE LAND

Argentina, Spain, South Africa, New Zealand. Different landscapes for unique varietals. Indomitable countries. And yet…

Having the wisdom to surround themselves with local experts, the Rothschild family learned from these experts all about the local delicacies and specialities of these new estates. These men and women have passed on their knowledge and their love of the land, with the resulting friendships and trust leading to the emergence of the Compagnie Vinicole’s famous vintages.

A PASSION

Malbec in Argentina, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay in South Africa, Sauvignon Blanc in New Zealand, Tempranillo in Spain – a sensation-inducing list of varietals. But that’s not the whole story. It’s also about the Rothschild family’s characteristic boldness... Who else would have dared to set up their wine production in the heart of an isolated, arid patch of land? Yet the Rothschild family chose the Andes and the Argentinian bodega, Flechas de los Andes, in order to offer the wonderful Argentinian Malbec, the Gran Malbec.

He who knows how to taste wine does not drink it but tastes to tease out its secrets.

A CULTURE

All the Compagnie Vinicole’s wines are produced with respect for the land, the terroir and the people. That’s what the Rothschilds demand.

It is only by turning the land and its produce into something magnificent, by setting up sustainable farming as standard, by entrusting our best vines and their treasure to the best people that we can achieve vintages that impress. That, and that alone, is worth the effort
The Rupert & Rothschild estate was consequently the first winery in South Africa to receive the ISO 14001 environmental management certification.
